Gibbons: Canticles and Cries
Presented by: Toronto Chamber Choir
A gorgeous concert featuring Sacred and Secular Gibbons and others with viols
"White Cabbage, white, young cabbage, white! Hard, garlicke, hard!" These are the sing-songy sounds of the London streets! London's street merchants each had a recognizable "Cry", a short melodious call announcing their wares. So melodious were their cries that several composers have immortalized these 16th century "jingles" in their compositions.
At our upcoming concert, Canticles & Cries, hear Orlando Gibbons' grand setting for singers and viols, plus other vendors' songs from sacred anthems and canticles, to the sounds of London's streets. Joining us for this program is Toronto's Cardinal Consort of Viols.
You won't want to miss this stunning program of music for voices and viols!
