KICK-OFF YOUR SUMMER AND JOIN ONE OF TORONTO'S BIGGEST COMMUNITY DANCE PARTY'S
Everyone can join this free family event and experience an age-old Japanese tradition at The Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre’s 2009 Summer Festival. During the summer months of July and August, communities all across Japan gather together to celebrate and to honour their ancestors. In Toronto, through the cooperation of many community organizations including the Toronto Buddhist Church and the New Japanese Canadian Association, this festive outdoor event occurs every July. Everyone of all ages are invited to experience the spectacle that features over 100 kimono clad dancers in a spectacular display of minyo or festival dancing.
Other 2009 Summer Festival highlights include games and activities for the kids; vendors showcasing traditional Japanese toys, handicrafts, delicious, tasty treats; and magnificent entertainment including the popular TAIKO drums, odori (Japanese dancing) and live music. This will truly be a fun and memorable event for the whole family!
The Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre (JCCC) is the oldest and largest Japanese cultural centre outside of Japan. The JCCC is the proud sponsor of a variety of special events including a concert by famed Hawaiian group, the Makaha Sons, in September and The Road to Asia Festival in November.
